Over twenty-two million Americans are suffering from sleep apnea. This is a sleeping disorder in which the breathing of the person repeatedly stops and starts. The number one symptom of this disorder is loud snoring which can indicate a serious problem. However, it is important to remember that not everyone who has sleep apnea snores. There are still other signs like awakening with a dry mouth, morning headache, and irritability that you should watch out. The researchers from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania found out that this disorder is linked to one unexpected body part - the tongue.
A person with sleep apnea can improve sleep apnea by losing weight, but the reason behind it is still unclear. So, the researchers measured the effect of weight loss using MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). They tested this out on obese patients, which lead them to discovery. Find out what that is now.
